Training during COVID -19
Medics for Life understands that despite the recent health situation, accreditors are still demanding that general practices comply with the requirements for CPR training. We will continue to conduct face-to-face resuscitation training for practices however, there will be some important precautions that will need to be followed,
in order to maintain the safety of participants and trainers. Medics for Life is following the credible, salient and sensible advice published by the European Resuscitation Council and ILCOR on CPR education and CPR implementation to manage the risk associated with COVID-19. These including the safe participant use of resuscitation masks and equipment (fitted with one-way valves and viral filters) rather than mouth to mouth and/or nose techniques.

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION
Recently a number of GP registrars informed Medics for Life that they had been told by their clinical supervisors from GP Synergy, that the BLS-CPR required by registrars at the beginning of their training must be a (VET) HLTAID001/009 Provide CPR course.
This information provided to Registrars is simply untrue. The actual position has been reaffirmed with the RACGP and GP Synergy, that this is not the case and BLS-CPR courses that are RACGP accredited are more than suitable and acceptable to both the RACGP and GP Synergy, without falling under the industry code.
In fact, the HLTAID001/009 Provide CPR courses contain no practice in child resuscitation and provide no training in the use of the resuscitation equipment required by practices as part of their accreditation; as detailed in RACGP 5th Edition Standards for General Practice -
Criterion GP5.2 – Practice equipment
GP3.1 C Our clinical team is trained to use the practice’s equipment that they need to properly perform their role.

GP3.1 D Our clinical team is aware of the potential risks associated with the equipment they use.
